Water heaters are a basic necessity of every household, regardless of your area of residence.

This often raises the energy costs to reach the roof! The best solution to this is opting for a tankless water heater since they’re both energy efficient and function as excellent heaters.

Buying tankless water heaters isn’t always a piece of cake. There’s a lot that you have to keep in mind.

As professional plumbers in Delray Beach, we provide you with a guide.

#1: Choosing the right tankless water heater

There are total of two tankless water heaters and while both of these are convenient, you need to understand the difference before you come to decision.

Type 1: Condensing water heater

These heaters use combustion gases as well as the gas burner to heat up the water inside. It doesn’t necessarily release gases outside, but since the exhaust gases are able to create extra heat, they tend to be more efficient. They also have another heat exchanger which can reuse the exhaust heat.

Type 2: Non-condensing water heater

As opposed to condensing water heater, these are much cheaper and actually exhaust the gases to the outside.

The non-condensing water heater uses the traditional gas burner to heat the water and send it through the pipe. This is also comparatively less efficient since 20% of the heat gets lost with the exhaust gases.

You will also need a proper metal venting system which may be more expensive to manage and maintain. They may have been around far longer than the prior option, condensation water heaters are still the far more preferred option than these.

#2: Choosing the capacity

Tankless water heaters may not have storage tanks but the capacity that you decide to buy will in turn affect how well your water is heated and how readily it is supplied to you.

Tankless water heaters run on a “gallons per minute (GPM)” measurement so you should pick a heater that heats water according to the number of persons in your residence.

#3: Amount of heaters

People often make the mistake of buying one tankless water heater and expecting it to be enough for the whole house. That’s not always the right option, unless you’re planning to limit the areas where the water can be supplied.  It’s best to get more than one tankless water heater to help sufficiently heat the water supplied to your home.
