Repairing a Compression Faucet – Why It’s Important!

A faulty faucet can hold us down and hinder us from completing daily household chores. Whether the problem is related to the kitchen or bathroom, investigating a leaky faucet is important.

While the sound of water dripping is vexing, that’s not the only reason to call a professional plumbing service. You want to be able to reduce your water bill and save yourself the trouble of a costly repair for a flooded and damaged house!

From damaged carpets, furniture and ruptured pipes, you can save yourself from a mountain of debt by having that pesky faucet checked.

The Important of a Professional Plumbing Service

You want long-term solutions and not something temporary. Therefore, it’s imperative to look into a professional plumbing service. Not only will a professional plumber know how to reduce your water bill, he or she will be able to detect the problem with specialized tools.

The problem with faulty faucets is that they are often times looked over or homeowners feel they can think they can fix the problem themselves. This is untrue and often times leads to costly repairs in return.

The problem is that there are many types of faucets available and many homeowners are unaware of which type is installed in their home

How Your Plumber Will Fix the Problem

Before your plumber begins assessing the problem, he or she will first make sure that you have a compression faucet. Compression faucets are the type that use a washer.

When that washer is “compressed” i.e., shut off by twisting and tightening it, the flow of water stops.

These are pretty old school and can wear out easily. They have very few parts that need to be repaired or replaced in order to fix them.

Your plumber will start by turning off the water supply underneath the sink. This is usually where the supply valve is found.

They will then remove thefaucet’s handle which is attached to the valve’s stem. Old faucets have screws and new ones have a metal cap that can be pulled off. Once the handle is removed, they will remove the cover off the assembly of the valve.

There will be a hex-shaped nut that will be removed using a wrench. After that is removed, your plumber will remove the washer and install a new one. They will then reassemble the faucet and restore the water supply.
